Microshifts for the Win!
We could all stand to be a little bit (or a lot) healthier. It’s just a fact. Lots of us slacked a bit on our healthy lifestyles this past year, maybe turning to comfort food or a little more wine than usual to help us cope with so much uncertainty. We definitely feel ya.
Here’s the thing, though: it’s overwhelming to think about completely overhauling our routine all at one time. It’s a rare person who can change multiple habits at once. We personally cannot, and we see no reason to subject ourselves to it!
What we prefer are microshifts. Tiny movements in a better direction. Nothing drastic, just moving the needle in a healthier direction. It’s a fact that making one tiny positive change will naturally lead to another. And then another.
Let’s start with better, smarter hydration.
At V2O, we’re always thinking about hydration. Water is crucial to our wellbeing, and all of our bodies’ systems need it to work well.
Some things water helps with are:
- Regulating your body’s temperature
- Carrying oxygen and nutrition to your cells
- Cushioning your joints
- Washing bacteria out of your bladder
- Keeping you regular and not constipated
- Balancing your electrolytes
- Keeping your heartbeat stable
- Protecting tissues and organs
So how much is enough? Drink your normal amount of water for a day or two and jot down what you drink. Now do a little calculation:
The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:
- About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men
- About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women
These recommendations cover fluids from water, other beverages and food. About 20% of daily fluid intake usually comes from food and the rest from drinks. So a range of 9 to 12 cups of water a day.
Do you need more hydration? Most of us do.
Add one V2O per day! That’s an easy and delicious 12 ounces of sparkling water PLUS antioxidants, probiotics and other good stuff, for a scant 40 calories.
